Once the home of Pemberton Milnes, a leading Whig and member of a family of wealthy merchants. The house had very large gardens and was built around the first part of the 1750's. The house was well placed and made a suitable residence for Pemberton when he became a Deputy Lieutenant of the County. Clarkson author of Memories of Wakefield also made this house his home. A local newspaper also used the property, when the railway connection in Wakefield ran directly behind the once magnificent stand alone mansion, made the prospect of this staying a home impossible.
