Eton College - Rolls of Honour
Lt. Col. Herbert Jones V.C. O.B.E.
Herbert was born in Putney and attended Eton College and on leaving the College joined the army. He was commissioned into the Devonshire and Dorset Regt. During the Falklands War he was in command of the 2nd Btn., The Parachute Regt. He was KIA on 28 May 1982 leading an attack on Darwin and Goose Green, the Falkland Island. He was buried at Ajax Bay, close to the position where he fell. He now lies at the Blue Beach War Cemetery in Port San Carlos. He was awarded the Victoria Cross postumously |
