Buchlyvie War Memorial

In Honoured Memory of the Men of Buchlyvie and District who fell in the War
Robert Alexander Robert was born in Buchlyvie, lived in Kippen, the son of Mr & Mrs John Alexander of Ladyland's Cottage, Kippen. He enlisted in Stirling, joining the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders as Pte S/2196. He was KIA on 27 September 1915 aged 19 and is remembered on the Loos Memorial
James Bradshaw  
Alexander Cowan Alexander was born in Buchlyvie and enlisted in Stirling. He joined the Black Watch as Pte S/23079. Alexander died of wounds on 24 April 1918 and rests in Belgian Battery Corner Cemetery.

Charles Gorrie Charles was the son of Mr Charles S Gorrie, Main Street, Bucklyvie. He was born in Glasgow, enlisting in Aberfoyle. He joined the Black Watch and became Corporlal 1808 and Died of Wounds on 2 September 1915 and rests in La Gorgue Communal Cemetery.

James Jaffray James was the son of the late William and Margaret Jaffray of Nether Mains, Glencarse was born in Bucklyvie, enlisting in Stirling, where he joined the Black Watcch as Pte S/7312. He was KIA on 25 September 1915 and is remembered on the Loos Memorial

Alexander McIntyre Alexander was born in Buchlyvie and enlisted in Stirling, joining the H.C. Battn as 2695. He was later transferred to the Black Watch as Ptd 350769 and was Died of Wounds on 27 July 1918 and rests in Royallieu French National Cemetery, Compeigne.
William L McIntyre William L McIntyre was born in Buchlyvie and enlisted in Glasgow, joining the Cameron Highlanders as 22449, later transferring to the Seaforth Highlanders and becoming Pte 263019. He was KIA on 31 July 1917 and he is remembered on the Menin Gate Memorial
Andrew McLaren Andrew was the son of James and Dollina MacKenzie MacLaren of Main Street, Buchlyvie. He was born in Buchlyvie and enlisted into the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders as Pte 4540; He was later transferred to the Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders and became Pte 220018. He was KIA on 28 March 1918 aged only 19 and he is remembered along with many others on the Arras Memorial.
William McLellan William was born in Buchlyvie but lived in Huntingdon, Yorks and enlisted in Stirling. He served as Pte 6446 in the Scots Greys, 2nd Dragoons div. of the Household Cavalry and Cavalry of the Line. He was KIA on 8 September 1914 and rests in Perreuse Chateau Franco British National Cemeter.
John Morrison  
Moses More Moses was born in Stirling the son of Moses and Bessie Sutherland More of Station Road, Buchlyvie. He enlisted in Stirling, joining the Argyll and Sutherlanders as Pte 202797. He was KIA on 22 August 1917 aged 19 and he is remembered on the Tyne Cot Memorial along with many others whose final resting place is not known.
Ronald J McOnie Ronald James McOnie was the son of John McOnie and his wife Agnes Jessie Strange McOnie of Buchlyvie. He stated on his Attestation Papers that he was born in Kingston on Thames on 19 August 1887 and was a chartered accountant by trade. Ronald signed these papers on 15 September 1914 in a very confident, educated and professional hand. Ronald was noted as being 5' 8" tall with a 39" fully expaned chest, he had a fair compleciton, with brown eyes and hair and a Presbyterian. He also had a 4 vaccination marks on his left arm and a scar above left ***** scalp ? Ronald joined the Canadian Infantry (Manitoba Regt.,) as Pte 29355 and was KIA on 23 April 1915 aged 27. He, like many others is remembered on the Menin Gate Menorial.
Archibald McVicar Archibald was the son of Niven and Bessie McVicar. He was born in Inverary and enlisted in Glasgow, joining Scottish Horse as 1621, transferring to the Black Watch as Pte S/40302. He was KIA on 25 September 1915 and is remembered on the Thiepval Memorial.

William F Steel William was born in Balfron, the son of John and Agnes Steel of Lower Ballaird, Balfron, He enlisted in Stirling. He joined the Black Wath as Pte 292700. He was KIA on 24 October 1918 aged 21 and he rests in La Vallee-Mulatre Communal Cemetery Extension.
