To the Glory of God and in memory of Robert Barnard Helme. Lieut. Royal Dragoons. Born Nov 26 1895. killed in Action June 25 1917. Buried at Villers Faucon, France and Guy Masterton Helms. Lieut 1st Batt. Coldstream Guards. Born Dec 2 1897. Died of wounds Oct 30 1917. Buried at Etaples France. Robert and Guy were sons of Lt Col. Robert Masterman Helme and Ellen of Lee Place, Wisborough Green. Robert snr in 1911 was a Barrister at Law and classed as a Gentleman with his family and staff, 12 people living in an 18 roomed house. In the 1901 census the family are at Lee Place where Robert snr is a Barrister at Law and farmer living with his wife, 3 children and 8 servants.
